How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I am a very creative, artistic person. I needed to find a career that would allow me to utilise that natural ability whilst at the same time helping people.  This allows me to do both!

One client had a teenage son who did not want me to redesign his bedroom.  He was very adamant on what he did not want changed.  His parents of course had other ideas.  I worked closely with the entire family and in the end, the son was over-the-moon with his new room.

What do you like most about your job?

I LOVE my job! It allows me to be creative and take a blank canvas and create something wonderful. I get to work with people and make THEIR spaces about THEM. I also love the people I work with - my trades & suppliers. They are awesome people and go above & beyond for me. My work gives me great satisfaction as I am leaving a little piece of myself and my expertise in the world.

How long have you been in business for?  In 2013, we will have been in business for 16 years. Why did you become an interior designer?  I love the work I do!  I am a very creative person and love turning a blank canvas into a work of art.  Each persons home is unique and I love working with clients to create the space they want.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

The client needs to advise what their timeframe is for the project and be realistic with it. It does help to have a budget to work to, but again, on large scale projects, be realistic. You cannot have good quality items for the price of inferior ones. Be open minded. My purpose is to provide advice & information on what will work best for YOU and YOUR SPACE. Think outside the box and take those ideas onboard.

1) Have an idea of what you want to create and achieve. This will minimise discussion and planning time at the initial consultation. 2) Collect sample or images of things you like and want to include. 3) Be realistic in your expectations. Timeframe and overall cost must be taken into consideration.

I also have an exceptional team of trades & suppliers that work with me, along with a registered builder, all of which gives Victoria's Interiors that extra edge over similar businesses. We pride ourselves on quality workmanship.

How do you normally charge for your service?

MOst of my clients prefer to be charge an hourly rate which allows both them & myself to know exactly how much time is being spent on their project.  I also charge set fees occasionally, especially if it is a large project. I can then either set a fixed fee or charge a percentage of the overall project cost.

All aspects of interior design & decorating, as well as renovations.  Extensive experience in kitchen & bathroom design and renovation.  Also extensive experience in home renovations & extensions, particularly on older homes (Federation & Art Deco style).  Registered builder available for all building work, home inspections, energy ratings & sustainability assessments.  Also building design.
