1- obtain at least 2-3 quotes 2- have a building designer to do the plans instead of an architect (we can help with that, ask us for   a quote) 3 - don't enter into a lump sum contract where the builder margin is high between 20-30%  we are happy to build your dream home under a cost-plus contract and we charge only 10%   margin saving you tens of thousands of dollars
