Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

I have business liability insurance with YOUI, policy number OA10131402 for up to $5,000,000. I guarantee plant survival for 2 months, as long as the plants have been cared for. Any problems that arise with hard landscaping will be rectified. I believe a client should always feel they can contact me and discuss any problems that may arise after job completion.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I have always had a passion for plants and the great outdoors. I was visiting my parents in Bali one time and I decided to redo their garden in Bali. Once I had finished, I was filled with such immense pride with what I had created for them.  They get such great pleasure from their new garden and this in turn made me happy. On returning to Australia I decided to start studying horticulture and garden design

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

When I first began work back in Bali I had the great pleasure to meet a retired Swiss couple. They were one of my first clients and after 5 years they became good friends. Their garden needs were only ever small but I would always make time for them because they always stuck by me. It is so important to always remember your clients, regardless of how big or small the job might be.

What do you like most about your job?

I love seeing my work evolve from a drawing on a flat piece of paper, into a glorious, living garden. I really enjoy working with my clients to help them achieve their dream outdoor space. The greatest pleasure for me is seeing my clients enjoying their new outdoor space

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

It is important that the client ask about plant placement in the garden. Plants have very different needs and grow to varying heights. If your landscaper cannot answer these questions then I would seriously consider their plant knowledge.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Two of the most common questions I get is, how long will it take and how much will it cost. The time frame really depends on the size of the garden and how much work is required. A small courtyard can be just as costly as a large yard, depending on what the client wants. It is always helpful to know the clients approximate budget so that I can create the best possible garden solution within their means. It is important to me that my clients are happy with my work and that we have been able to achieve their dreams without overspending.

I always keep my word to my clients and turn up on time. I will complete the job in a timely manner and I always finish with a walk through of the finished garden with my clients to make sure they are happy. Communication during the garden transformation ensures the clients satisfaction with the end result.

Every client has their own personal needs and I endeavour to provide those needs. My industry is quite personal because you are being invited into people's homes and private spaces. Above all I respect this and that is why my clients will always deal directly with me. I handle the project from the very beginning until the project is completed.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

-It is always helpful if the client has a rough idea of what they would like to achieve. This saves time and the fore money. -Having a clear direction before I begin is important. Changes to the overall plan once work has commenced can affect the original quote. I always discuss the plan and my quote before I begin so that everyone is happy with the design and plant selection. -If the garden is large and the clients have a budget frame, I sometimes suggest dividing the garden into area's. This way we can determine which is the most important area and focus on that. From there I can work backwards and make sure the money is spent with the greatest effect and creating the best overall impact. If we get the design and framework in place, extra plants can always be added over time.

My pricing is well within the landscaping pricing guidelines. My quotes show transparency so that the clients know exactly what they are paying for and I will do my absolute best to make sure I work within my clients budget. Once again, communication is the key.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I generally charge for a complete job however if the client requires just design or planting, I will tailor the quote to suit the clients needs. My quotes are clearly divided into the cost of plants, cost of materials and my labour costs so that the client can easily see what they are paying for.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have studied at both holmesglen Tafe and Charles Darwin University. I have a sound knowledge of plant species and I am very good at selecting appropriate plants for each specific job.  I have also worked in Darwin and more recently, Bali, Indonesia. I specialise in design, garden construction and paving.
