How did you decide to get into your line of work?

when I left school , I wanted to be a builder , but fate dealt my family a blow , and I had to take over my family's hotel , whilst my dad recovered from an illness, hated it at first , but grew to love it , it taught me everything I know about people and myself , when the hotel was finished , I was offered a way back to the industry , starting at the bottom as a laborer, and worked my way through the company as leading hand , foreman , factory supervisor , estimator , sales , project manager , all the way until I opened my own business back in 1986,, whilst working I have always worked on site , carpentry , plaster work , tiling , glazing , electrical, plumbing , drainage , painting , setting , all skills picked up and used ,

What do you like most about your job?

the best is seeing the completed job and the fact that the customer is happy , but most of all building a relationship with the customer ,achieving the same goal , my long time loyal customers , when they want it done , or a problem solved , they come to me

most common question is how much $$$$,, and how long will it take , then is it going to be much inconvenience to the people around here , the answers here are different , I will provide a detailed estimate with all the works detailed with a cost , the other a program is provided yes it is dependent on weather , and thirdly works will be organised around the client and times to suit , but this can affect the cost

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I have over 38 years in the construction , refurbishment business, worked on the tools constantly and the boardroom at the same time , I know how long things take to get done , who to hire and who not too, and most of all what you should be paying . cheap prices are great , but will that contractor let you down , give you a good job , maintain his warranty , will he even be in business 1 year from now , I have been in business since 1986

get all the information required for the works , write a list of the works to be carried out , list the materials you would like used , listen to suggestions of the contractors , they are up with new materials etc ,  dont take short cuts , it could cost you more money later on

every building professional purchases materials for around the same cost , so margin on materials is a factor here , the same goes for labour , being it sub-contract or wages , depends on the initial cost and charge out  you pay for what you get , you want cheap , maybe you get a cheap and shoddy job , you pay the right price and you get the right job

depends on the project , you want consultancy its an hourly rate , you want project management its hourly rate or percentage of the over-all project , you want me to physically do the job and be there and put thru the works then its quoted at today's rates and carried out to program

gyprock repairs , plastering , wall building ,set-out,project management , site co-ordination, organising other trades to facilitate a project , making sure the client is aware of what is best for his /her project
