We amended the initial quote because it had missed one of the valleys. This amendment was by phone rather than in writing, and brought their quote a little above others. The guys turned up when they said (they cancelled one afternoon's work due to stormy weather - understandable when working on a roof). The job was completed more quickly than they estimated. While up there, the roofer noticed and replaced another cracked tile which by its location was probably the source of the leak. It was not a "neat" job, but will hopefully be enough: there was a little bit of debris left in the valleys; the valley seal had not been heated (so wasn't stuck down) and had been poked in rather evenly laid after removing the tiles. The focus was on stopping the leaks, so I did not need it to look pretty. There was no final test that the problem had been fixed, so I am still a bit nervous about future leaking. But I would be happy to take up their offer of calling them back if there is a problem.
