Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

I have 10 Million cover in Public Liability insurance that is current and maintained.  For a wedding booking I have a standard contract that applies mainly to Uncle Johnny not having his eyes open for that important shot. This I can not prevent however I do check each shot to ensure it is what I wanted. My contract also ensures that the client is presented the final work in a timely manner. For weddings who have family members or friends who can not make it, I will upload the images to my share web space so that all involved can see the images online. All my work is copyrighted to myself but also I ensure full rights to the clients as well. They are their pics and they should have them. I do NOT put my copyright labels all over my work so my client has to see me for prints. The client is the co-owner of the work, that is my policy. I have never had any client unhappy with my work so yes, it is of a high standard and I warranty that. Steven Modra weddingphotosa

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I have been a photographer for 25 years now. I always used cameras for work but over the last 10 years I updated all my equipment and have kept the current model of either Nikon or Canon and Sony and Nikon for Video. Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

This story is not that happy actually. But I relay it to you as it touched me and made me feel as though I was able to give someone some form of comfort in a time of great sadness. I did a shoot for a large commercial entity at the Adelaide Entertainment Center. I was to shoot all the displays and then various people who were in attendance and later the dinner.I happened to pick out an attractive couple who were obviously very close. I took a lovely image of them and went on my way. About two weeks later I received a phone call from the young lady wanting to know if she could have that image immediately. I asked her what was the rush as I was working through some 700 images. She then informed me that she was at her mother in laws home and that I had taken the only picture of them together and that the young man I had pictured her with had been killed in a car accident. She rang me to see if she could have the photograph because his funeral was that day. Well, I printed, emailed and delivered her image and with my heartfelt condolences.  I know this may not be the usual experience but it is one I remember and still feel as though I was able to offer that young lady some comfort from my efforts as a pro photographer. What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Clients should always ask what experience the perspective photographer has had and always try to substantiate their claims. The last thing you want is to pay good money and get a rubbish or disappionting result. Often these events can not be redone and it is unfortunately a fact that some people can not deliver. Try to engage the photographer in conversation and see how the feel is. They need to be on the same page as you are if they are to deliver on your photographic needs. Steven Modra weddingphotosa

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Customers often ask, : can I fit it in and that is because a lot of the commercial shoots I do are on a short notice basis. I then have to select and book models, locations, security if required etc etc. Another common question is what are the costs, I generally cost our weddings for instance as an hourly rate with a setup surcharge. I usually offset those costs somewhat for the client by way of including a photo-book, a very nice album with a full set of prints mounted within, and a selection of A4 or A3 photo prints as a complementary thank you for the booking and for entrusting me with their photographic or video requirements. What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I like to talk with the client in depth to determine a variety of elements that go into a productive shoot. The location or locations are important. Parking at those locations need to be identifies. Is there a list of key images that the client may want on top of the usual requirements. How many people may be attending. What is the estimation on the time they will need the photographic service for. And what am I going to include in my quote. How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1/ Do some homework and choose the right photographer. 2/ Remember you are the client and what you want is what should be happening. Try not to be drawn into a service that somehow creeps up to way more than you were originality quoted. Some people seem to think that a quote is a starting point, It is not. 3/ Let the photographer work with you to plan the shoot part of your event, the when and wheres and who of the images. How do you normally charge for your service?

I usually have a set fee structure for certain types of events. This can vary with all the different requirements that come my way at times. The charges are either hourly based with consideration to travel  and any expenses that my pop up.  For commercial shoots I sometimes base the charges on a "per Image" basis with a "set-up" fee. There is also the option for "post production" charges but I tend to include these in the quoted costings. I will add this however, once I submit a quote, that is the costings. Unless something very unforeseen by either myself or the client comes along to complicate the situation, my policy is, the quote is the quote, not a starting point. Steven Modra weddingphotosa

I do various types of photographic and video shoots. I do like to cover Weddings. The personal interaction is very rewarding particularly when presenting the final work to the clients. I also am active in the Commercial Photographic marketplace where I shoot various models with products or clothing. I have also had medical equipment and technical shoots both studio and onsite.
