How did you decide to get into your line of work?

It kind of chose me.  I was working with a women's association and there was a need and I just had this fascination with computers and websites.  So I started learning as much as I could and pretty soon I had women from the association getting me to do their work for them and it grew from there.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I recently went to Melbourne and caught up with a past client.  She had two web projects she needed doing - one a web rescue (finishing off another designer's work) and the other from scratch.  I knocked over both jobs in two sessions. She was rapt!  Cheapest website job ever!

What do you like most about your job?

I love helping people realise their vision.  I love being creative - it is like blood in my veins.  I just love bring to life another person's vision and seeing how it increases their confidence in themselves.

What would your friends say about you?  What do your customers say about you? What is your policy on customer satisfaction?  Show me your work samples.  Who is a customer I can phone to find out more about your work - not a friend?

How long it will take me to do a job and I can do a website in a day if I have everything I need to do the job.  Can I help them to manage the site themselves once it is up?  Yes, I can teach you to add information and take it off.  How soon can you get started?  As soon as I have everything.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

Generally, I stick with a job to completion and to the standard required. I have only ever had two job not complete due to circumstances outside my control. I speak the truth, so you get what you pay for and you get an open and honest conversation with me. I also give honest feedback about choices.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

My clients appreciate that I listen, quickly pick up what they are trying to achieve and produce an end result they are very happy with quickly and with the minimum of fuss.  I have streamlined my processes to create maximum communication potential between me and the customer so nothing gets lost.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

What the job entails (helps me see if there are any complications that might eat up time)  Any special features.  What the customer's budget is (this helps me to know if I we are speaking the same language).  Timeframe for the project (can I complete it in the timeframe to the standard required).

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

Have all the content they want to use for your project ready before they contract a designer.  Chasing information costs you money.  Also, source the pictures you want to use yourself if you feel capable and make sure they are the appropriate size for the job.   Communicate.  Ask questions.

What makes your pricing competitive?

I believe in value for money.  I am not cheap and nasty but I am also not expensive and over priced.  I want to give value, so my pricing is competitive.

How do you normally charge for your service?

My terms are COD or 7 Days is my normal way of charging.  I work on an hourly fee, unless a package is purchased, and I record all tasks completed against those hours by using a timer.

I am particularly good at helping people start up businesses and develop their bigger picture for the business, with the ability to help them break down their big picture so they can project manage more effectively.  I also believe in value for money, so only charge what is reasonable for the work.
