Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

All electrical business by law have to have Public liability insurance. My work is guaranteed for two years thus I will fix any products that I supply during the warranty period. ( Some fans will be done by manufacturer by their electrician ) Most LED down lights come with 5 year warranty.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I always wanted to work for myself and control my destiny. If I wanted to work hard, do the long hour then my family would benefit not the boss. Sometimes I wonder if a 9 to 5 job would be less stressful but with the uncertainty of job security now days I doubt it.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Not a story but the reaction to us bringing in our vacuum cleaner to cleanup after the work has been completed. Some say they have never seen that before but I feel it I make the mess, I should clean it up.

Electrical work is always challenging and every day is different . There are no short cuts when doing electrical work so getting the job done safety and neatly is the aim.

How long they have been in business. The best way to check that is by looking at the contractor licence number. The lower the number the longer they have been in business and the greater the chance of getting your problem fixed as they will still be around.

Common questions are about operation of products. Instruction manual are left with owners or tenants after they have been shown how to use them. If people need help with electrical problem they can ring me and most times it can be solved over the phone. ( Especially safety switches )

I own the business and have worked in the industry for over 35 years. If you have a problem with the installation, I will fix it as my reputation in on the line.

We are a small electrical company with the owner and an apprentice who work together. The person quoting the job is the person doing the job. With over 35 years of experience, we are able to carried out all types of electrical installation.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Type of house ie tiled, tin, double brick, two storey flat roof etc. Access to do cabling is critical as it increases the labour cost if we have to pull sheets off.

Know what they want and where they want it. Try and describe the layout of the house as best as possible so I can allow for all scenarios.  Try to get an onsite visit so I can point out problems or offer another option.

With two people, wiring jobs on existing houses are easier to carry out, thus reducing time on the job. Testing is faster.

Direct debt, cash or cheque are the usual methods of payment. Cost of credit card machines is too costly and most people have online banking facilities.

Being a small company , we are able to do a wide range of electrical work. We don't specialise in one area.
