How did you decide to get into your line of work?

When my Father died 17 years ago, I assisted the celebrant in writing the funeral service to commemorate his life. This event in my life was the catalyst for me deciding to become a celebrant. I haven't looked back and love every moment being able to share in important and memorable moments in people's lives. Sparking this desire in me to become a celebrant was my Father's parting gift to me for which I'm eternally grateful.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Every ceremony is unique, because people are unique.  I've heard many romantic marriage proposals over the years, that I plan on writing a book about some of them one day.  One of my most unusual and alternative wedding ceremonies was a Canadian couple who celebrated in a truly unique way with a Mermaid theme.  The bride, groom, their bridal party, and even the guests wore very ornate, original costumes with an ocean theme, with the groom wearing a fish head no less!!

What do you like most about your job?

Meeting people from all walks of life and sharing with them one of the most special and significant days in their lives.  Being a Marriage Celebrant has to be one of the most rewarding careers I can think of.  I feel very blessed!!

How many wedding ceremonies have you conducted? What is your style? When were you authorised as a Marriage Celebrant? What professional associations do you belong to? Are you fully insured? Can you help us write our vows? Can I come and see one of your ceremonies?

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

A common questions is: what's the process in getting married, how far in advance do we need to book you, and can you give us some ideas? Answer: I explain the marriage process to my clients at our first initial no-obliation meeting. They are welcome to contact me at a later date for clarification of anything. I aim to make the process as simple and stress-free as possible. Once a couple or family has decided they would like me to be their celebrant I advise them to book straight away to secure their date. A deposit is required at the time of booking to secure the date and time of their ceremony.  I always offer my clients lots of ideas to help personalise their ceremony and many sample vows to choose from or an easy to follow template to write your own. Upon booking clients receive a very comprehensive Wedding Resource Kit which provides plenty of information and ideas.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I take my role as a Civil Marriage Celebrant in my community seriously and my attention to detail is second to none.  There are no second takes with your wedding ceremony, so it's very important to get it right the first time. I have a Bachelor of Business and Certificate IV in Celebrancy from The Celebrants Training College and have conducted in excess of 300 weddings since Authorisation as a celebrant in 2010. Prior to becoming a celebrant I spent many years in community service, administration and Toastmasters, learning the art of public speaking. I love what I do, and it's reflected in my work. I offer an immediate discount on my professional fee to couples and families who are prepared to travel to my home office for the initial no-obligation meeting, and pay in full at the time of booking.

Professional Mipro PA unit with separate CD player and wireless microphone, together with signing table with white damask tablecloth and white armour bench are all included in my fee. I also offer a payment plan if requested and a 2% discount off total fee if balance is paid at time of booking.

What makes your pricing competitive?

As an experienced professional celebrant I charge a very reasonable hourly rate. My average fee range is anywhere from $330 to $550 in 2020. Elopements are $280* conditions apply). Call me today to discuss your ceremony and I can give you a quote over the phone.

How do you normally charge for your service?

This is a very difficult question to answer because every couple getting married and therefore every ceremony is different. I base my fee on an estimate of the expected number of hours involved, including travel time. A basic legal only/elopement wedding package, with just two witnesses within 10kms of my home in the Eastern suburbs starts at $295.00 Wherease, a personalised ceremony with 100 guests would take substantially longer preparation time, and therefore my fee is higher, but remains very competitive and is excellent value for money. I confirm my fee at the first no-obligation meeting, which is then fixed, so there are no hidden extras, or give me a call and I can give you an accurate quote over the phone.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I specialise in writing and creating meaningful, unique ceremonies for couples and families, who wish to celebrate a significant milestone in their lives, eg: marriage, commitment, funerals and memorials, renewal of vows, significant birthdays, baby naming, pet ceremonies, living Wakes and significant anniversaries. The vast majority of my ceremonies are marriages which I conduct throughout metropolitan Melbourne, The Dandenong Ranges, Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have a business and community service background with many years public speaking experience before entering celebrancy. I'm very much a "people person" with a "can do/flexible" attitude to all my ceremonies. All my ceremonies are customised entirely to the specifications of my couples, delivered on time and on budget. I hold the highest celebrancy qualification in Australia and as a professional celebrant undergo yearly professional development.
