What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

To provide a quote, we need to understand the nature and scope of work involved. We need to know the structure (sole trader, partnership, company, trust or SMSF) from where client is running its business. For business clients, we need to know if they already have bookkeeper in place who have completed bank reconciliation until 30 June 20XX as well as the accuracy of of record keeping. Also, we need to know how many years of lodgements (including income tax m BAS and FBT returns) are outstanding.   In short we expect to learn as much as possible about the client situation during the initial meeting and to understand their expectations. We then offer fixed fee quote based on all the information we have on hand.

For Individuals clients - Ensuring you keep the records of all receipts and (if possible) summarised everything on an excel spreadsheets.   For Business clients - Ensuring you subscribe to cloud based software making sure it supports automatic bank feeds for keeping the record of your business income and expenses including GST. We can assist clients (including offering training) and help them setting up software including chart of accounts and tax codes. This could potentially achieve significant amount of time and cost savings.
