How did you decide to get into your line of work?

One of my biggest regrets was believing what I was told. As a result I never pursued photography or any other artist field until later in my adult life. But since discovering photography I have totally fallen in love with it. My work has appeared in magazines, been used in scientific journals and promotional work and is being enjoyed by my many personal clients.   I love the creation process, I want to give people something they want to hang on their walls, not just something for the fridge.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I have a love for photography. The walls of my home are covered in photos of my family and the places that I have been. My favourite client is one that loves photography as much as I do. Someone who understands what photography gives us and values that.

What do you like most about your job?

I love the creation process. I live and breathe photography and I am always looking at or searching for light. What makes me good is my passion and my drive.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

For some people their last contact with a professional photographer was having school photos taken (and didn't we all love that experience). You should feel comfortable asking your photographer anything about your session and their style.  Selecting a photographer a very personal choice. I believe it is important to talk over the phone or meet with people prior to booking a session. Even a small amount of rapport with your photographer can make a big difference in the look of your photos.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

Photos by Kris is an Accredited Professional Photography service. I have never missed a photo session or meeting with a client. My policy is to respond to all emails within 24 hours of receiving contract from someone. I professionally edit all photos and only use the best photo labs.

I'm an Accredited Professional Photographer with the AIPP, which means you're guaranteed by a professional body that my work is of the highest standards.  I describe myself as having a natural relaxed artistic style. I love capturing warm, natural moments between people as well as using professional lighting to create dramatic images. I believe this is reflected in the way I approach my photography and is reflected in the photos I take.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

The questions I will typically ask someone is: 1) What is it that you are after (i.e. Wedding, Portrait or Commercial photography); 2) Do you have a preferred time and date; and 3) Do you have a favourite location for the photography.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1) Make sure you choose the right photographer. An Accredited Professional Photographer has had their work assessed by their peers. They produce consistent high quality work. With both wedding and portrait photography there are no do-overs. You need to make sure you like their style and are comfortable that they can deliver on any claims they make. I believe in showing you full galleries of images, not just a few 'hero' shots.  2) Photos by Kris has no minimum purchase requirements, ensuring you only buy what you truly love, are proud of and want to share and display in your home, office, website or product.  3) Choose a photographer you like and can get along with. If you are happy and comfortable your images will be so much better.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Choosing a photographer can be a difficult task. There are few other occasions where you will be asked to pay in advance for a service where the end product cannot be returned and there are no ‘do-overs’. Therefore it’s important to see a photographer’s work from start to finish and not just a collection of hero shots. I am happy to provide an individualised quote for every job. What you want from your photography will differ to the next person and each quote should reflect this.

Photos by Kris specialises in Wedding, Portrait and Commercial Photography. While based in Canberra, I also shoot in the surrounding areas, including Sydney, the snowy mountains and the south coast. In fact I’m happy to take my photography kit and travel anywhere.
