Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Yes i am an insured business. I only use glues made for the exact purpose of the areas completed and as a result provide a 10 year guarantee on my work.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

My Father had 20 or 25 Ceramic Tilers working for him so i used to help in the school holidays etc. I was born into the job and I could not wait to leave school so i could make money and be independent.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Accepted Answer

I usually have customers saying that they did not think the project would come up as good as it has. Like most finishing trades Tile selection is quite hard to visualise what the area is going to look like until after its finished. Normally they are quite proud of themselves and their selections.

What do you like most about your job?

Seeing the end result is the most satisfying thing. I think a good Tiler always has a lot of the perfectionist in them.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Ask whether the Tiler is Licensed and Insured. How long have they been doing there trade and finally ask how they suggest doing the installation so it will look its best.

The most common question is when can you start! I like to operate by not have myself booked out too far ahead, i think i work better when under pressure.

I am a good communicator so i always try not to have too many balls in the air at any one time. There is always going to be small delays from time to time and some shuffling around with weather etc but i always approach things with good communication being the key. I know many Tilers to assist if things get out of my control.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I am Old School in the fact that i take great care and precision in doing my craft. I started my apprenticeship in 1985 when it was extremely hard to get into a trade as it was so popular. It is very hard to get a Tiler these day who has really put the time in to learn the many things they are required to know. Experience is the key.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I will always request to see what it is you require at site. I will discuss the Tile selection and what is the overall look you are trying to achieve. Tile selection and how the tiles are to be layed are the main factors to be discussed before pricing as well as access, stairs, condition of walls or floor etc.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Buy quality Tiles that will look good and that will stay current for a long period of time. Only look for Licensed Tradesmen. Remember good work aint cheap and cheap work aint good.

At the end of the day i am driven by the service that i will provide and the fact i know it is going to last and look great. I have been in this game long enough to know that paying a bit extra for quality really makes a difference overall. Your friends will notice it too.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Almost always it is a site visit with the owner to discuss the requirements their expectations and what their tile selection will be. The price can vary if the tile is a more difficult or a more time consuming install.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I do like to do large floors as i get great satisfaction in seeing the finished result once we are complete. All aspects really from kitchen splashbacks, waterproofing and everything in between. In winter i do like to do Swimming pools as they are tricky and always a challenge.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

4 x Year Apprenticeship, many years working for my Fathers large Commercial Tiling business doing many Highrises, Shopping Centres, Train Stations, Large Swimming Pools etc. I have also worked for home Builders doing residentials as well as Mums and Dads with kids doing renovations just like me.
