  UPDATED August 2025 Engaged this firm for years for a family law matter. Most things I was advised the total opposite seemed to happen in the actual court. At the end of my matter was a mistrial. The mistrial was due to the court appointed independent children’s lawyer being unlicensed and uninsured . However this did not stop me accruing legal bills and cohen lawyers sent me a final bill of around 17k at the end. As I started to repay this debt after several payments were made I received emails of demand specifically on Xmas eve and New Year’s Eve which they claim affected all their clients and that it was a software error of some sort. In any case nobody wants to hear from a lawyer about money on Xmas or New Year’s Eve and this left a very sour taste in my mouth. For somebody to go through years of their life in legal proceedings spend over $150,000 with a firm and end up with a mistrial was a horrible experience for our family and just feel like a firm that takes you into a trial should be checking everything is above board , If your building a house you make sure the foundations are solid . They have advised me they can’t foresee this sort of thing , it’s a court appointed lawyer , it’s not their job to know or to check etc etc .. that’s all great but I just don’t agree and never will agree. Your representing outcomes of children’s lives and families lives and need to have stronger processes when taking people in to trial.
