We deal directly with the evidence, the charge, the available defences and the practical consequences from the outset. That includes clear advice about the strength of the case, what can and cannot be achieved, and how the matter should be prepared and run.  We also understand that these matters often affect far more than the court date itself. They can affect a person’s licence, work, family arrangements, reputation and liberty. Our approach is careful, direct and preparation-focused, with experienced representation in court and a clear view of what is at stake.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1. Gather everything early. Bring together the notice to appear, QP9, bail papers, police statements, licence material, court documents, and any relevant messages, photos or footage before the first conference. The more complete the material is at the outset, the less time is spent later chasing basic information.  2. Write a clear timeline of what happened. Set out the events in order while they are still fresh, including times, locations, who was present, and anything said or done that may matter. That helps us identify the real issues quickly and reduces time spent reconstructing the facts later.  3. Act early, not after the matter has drifted. Early advice can avoid wasted appearances, missed opportunities, unnecessary adjournments and poorly prepared applications. In many criminal and traffic matters, delay ends up costing more.

Our pricing is competitive because we offer focused criminal defence representation without the overheads of a large general practice. Civic Law is led by criminal defence lawyers with more than 30 years’ combined post-admission experience. Our work has included bail applications, domestic violence matters, traffic and drink driving offences, Children’s Court matters, and defended hearings, trials and sentences in the Magistrates and District Courts.  The firm’s principal, Sacha Sarah Smith, practised for close to a decade at the New Zealand Bar as a criminal barrister, appearing as lead counsel in hundreds of criminal matters including jury trials and appeals. Since commencing practice in Queensland, she has continued to practise in criminal defence, including matters in Cairns and on circuit in regional and remote communities.  That background is reflected in the way Civic Law approaches each matter: careful preparation, direct advice about the evidence and the available options, and experienced courtroom advocacy.
