When you have an electrical issue it usually warrants a call to the electrician. This is due in part to the risks associated with trying to fix the electrical problem on your own.   Whether you need to fault find or plan on installing new electrical fittings to the house here are a few steps that you may want to try before calling an electrician. Remember, if you feel unsure about any of this it's better to call an Electrical Contractor. Also, if a breaker or safety switch keeps switching itself off it's a sign that something needs to be looked at by a proessional. Safety first! Electrical work around the home is very tempting for ambitious do-it-yourselfers, probably because most people would not pay an electrician to come and change a light bulb. However, this does not mean you should attempt any electrical work beyond this! Badly done electrical installations can kill, and dangerous mistakes are not always obvious to the amateur. Besides the very real danger of electric shock when attempting to work on fixed electrical installations (those involving wiring and appliances that are fixed to the building, such as sockets or switch boards) is illegal if you're not a qualified electrician. However if you are skilled in some minor maintenance you may want to see if you can handle the issue or isolate a problem before the electrician arrives.   • Check if Circuit Breaker or safety switch has tripped. One of the first things you want to look at if there are any electrical issues in your home is the circuit breaker. The first thing to check out is if the switch is in an off position, all it requires is to flip the switch again to help bring back on the power. The may have been caused by overloading the circuit with too many appliances plugged in. It’s important to check all the breakers to see if you can find the one that needs to be flipped.  • Simple Causes of no power to lights and power points. There may be a bulb out, a faulty electrical appliance or water has entered an electrical appliance, power point or light fitting. Sometimes the electrical issue is an easy or simple cause such as a bulb being burnt out in the light. To check whether an appliance is causing the fault, turn off and unplug (pull out from the wall) all electrical appliances on the circuit that will not reset and try resetting the circuit breaker again. If the circuit breaker resets, plug in each appliance one by one and if the circuit trips you now know it is a new appliance you require not an electrician. If you are looking to install any new lights, power or electric systems in your house, here are a few steps to take before calling an electrician. 1.	Make a list. Figure out your plans ahead of time for all the locations for specific appliances and items. This way you have it mapped out to help your electrician when they come. 2.	Make sure to notate any plans for new lighting that you are wanting or new outlets you are in need of. Questions to ask a potential electrician 1. Ask your electrician if they are licensed and if they are up to date on the latest wiring rules.  2. You will also want to double check if they are insured and if they offer a warranty.  When it comes to hiring an electrician it’s important to make sure you have all the information required about the job, the electrical service has all the licenses, insurances and ability to complete the work you require and they are able to provide a quality service.

Thirdly Austest supports safety and function testing and programmed maintenance. Examples of the testing, reporting and repair services include electrical appliance testing and tagging, Emergency exit lights, RCD’s, thermal imaging, portable welders, lighting, emergency stops and guarding.
