At 13 years of age I was playing with cars and I even pulled and engine apart and back together at the age of 15, not much has changed now I am 58, my drive to learn and to be involved in this industry is still as big a passion as it was then when I was 13.

What do you like most about your job?

It is a passion of mine to be able maintain and solve peoples car problems. This industry is one of the most changing industries around and it has becomes very challenging to keep up with all the new technology that is happening with modern vehicles today. With this challenge comes a drive to learn and to stay abreast with the ever increasing changes we are seeing today in the Automotive industry.

Check out the qualifications of any shop you are considering, check their reviews, ask them for referrals:  As in most service industries, word of mouth is an invaluable tool to both the service provider as well as the customer. It is vitally important to ask your friends, family members, business associates, and even people working at local establishments which mechanic in town they use or who they would recommend.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

What Car should I buy? It is not my place to tell a customers what car to buy, but I do recommend to stay away from small diesel powered cars and 4WD as they will be very costly to maintain if not serviced correctly and regularly. Some European cars can be more costly in maintaining as well. So I tell my customers to do their homework and always have a used car checked before buying.

Many things makes a person stand out, Honesty, trustworthiness, experience, good service and the ability to know our stuff. We are good at what we do and we are continually bettering our education, our equipment and our ability to be thorough in what we do. But if I had to prove myself, it would be by example of the 20 or more years of having many loyal customers that have stayed with me all this time.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Depending on your problem as to what a Mechanic will need to know before one can quote. In many cases the vehicle may need to be inspected to determine the necessary repairs that are needed.   It is important to realise it is impossible to quote on some issues, particularly an intermittent type driveability problems.       The Mechanic will need to know your description of the problem, when it started, what makes it worse or better, and any other signs or symptoms that something might be wrong. Spend a little time observing the problem so that you understand the conditions under which the problem occurs.  The Mechanic will then need to experience the problem as well as maybe hook up some diagnostic equipment to your car. All this is necessary and involves a diagnostic cost to the customer before a repair plan can be determined. At this point it maybe possible to than quote on your job.   Of cause if your repairs are of a basic nature it is then possible for a Mechanic to quote on a job, which can be subject to change if a unforeseeable fault or problem exist, but at this point the customer would be notified before proceeding.

1/  Regular Car servicing and maintenance check will save money in the long run.   2/  Regular tyre checks will insure correct tyre pressure will save unnecessary tyre ware and save fuel. 3/  Regular checks of your coolant and engine oil will save a engine disaster from happen if neglected.
